Dr Raquel Campos Valverde

Raquel (she/her) is an ethnomusicologist of digital culture based in Leeds, UK. Her research interests lie at the intersection of platform studies, popular music, and cultural anthropology. Raquel’s current research deals with software governance, cultural inequality, and alternative music streaming platforms. She was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, in the ERC-funded MUSICSTREAM project (2022 – 2026) led by Prof David Hesmondhalgh. Before moving to Leeds, she was a Lecturer in Digital Culture and Society at King's College London. Her latest publications include “Inequity by design: Music streaming taxonomies as ruinous infrastructure”, “Wellness creep into music streaming platforms: From pure chill to aural slop” (co-authored with Dr Ludmila Lupinacci), and “A safe, responsible, and profitable ecosystem of music”: Analyzing ethical perceptions and implementation of generative AI in the music industry”, (co-authored with Dr Bondy Kaye).
