I have recently spent nine months in Mongolia conducting fieldwork for my PhD in ethnomusicology at Leeds University, supervised by Dr Kevin Dawe and Dr Judith Nordby, funded by the Leeds University Research Scholarship.

In March 2009 I traveled to Embangweni, Malawi, where I acted as photographer, sound recorder/designer, and 2nd camera on the production of a documentary about health care and community.

ICTM: Durban, South Africa, 1st-8th July 2009. Having optimistically packed various pairs of shorts and loud short-sleeved shirts, I was amazed to find myself reaching for the long johns on my first night at the ICTM conference!
The year 2008-9 marked some notable achievements for members and associates of the Music Department at SOAS. For example, in the Research Assessment Exercise, 80% of Music’s submission was graded 3* (internationally excellent) or 4* (world-leading quality): the highest result across the school.
