April Wei-West

April Wei-West is an AHRC CHASE-funded doctoral researcher in ethnomusicology at SOAS. With research interests in digital cultures and Japanese popular music, her PhD explores vocal synthesis creative practices, namely within Vocaloid, Utau, and Synthesizer V software. April is also organising lead of the CHASE Digital Studies Collective (DiSCo) research network which provides training for the development of interdisciplinary digital research tools, methods, and theoretical frameworks. As part of this, April is co-editor of the DiSCo Journal, an annual radical scholarly publication aimed at critically interrogating the digitisation of everyday life.
